Acting on the call of Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, the city council approved an urgent resolution extending the period of paying business taxes, without any surcharge or interest, to Feb. 15.
Monday was the deadline for about 60,000 businesses to renew or secure their business license and mayor’s permit under Republic Act 7160, or the Local Government Code of 1992.
The extension followed the joint report of City Treasurer Liberty Toledo and Permits Bureau chief Nelson Alivio to Lim, showing that efforts to collect taxes were wanting and more time was needed for taxpayers to remit to the city coffer their dues.
