METRO Manila’s problem on informal settlers or squatters can be solved by 2018 if the government would adopt the program drafted by an interagency committee headed by Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Bayani Fernando.
Fernando, who also heads the Metro Manila Interagency Committee for Informal Settlers, said the committee was able to formulate a program that can make the National Capital Region or Metro Manila free of informal settlers within 10 years.
“I will be submitting the proposed program before the President [Gloria Arroyo] within this week. The proposal is a product of a study conducted by members of the committee that can solve the metropolis’ squatter problem,” Fernando said. He refused to give further details of the program.
