The city government is studying the possibility of declaring electric vehicle production as a priority investment area. The plan was announced after representatives of Australian firm E-Motion Co. visited the city to look into the possibility putting up a electric motorcycle plant.
Councilor Pilar Braga, chairperson of the committee on energy, said manufacturing electronic vehicles would fulfill the National Government’s objective of reducing pollution and dependence on fossil fuels. This city alone spends about 70% of its operations expenses annually to fossil fuel, officials said.
A study commissioned by the city government two years ago recommended alternative energy development as a priority investment area.
