Camp Crame is widening the close circuit TV surveillance in the metropolis while Marikina City pilots the electronic crime deterrence system.
At least 26 CCTVs are now monitoring major roads, including one in front of La Salle Green Hills in Mandaluyong City with another 24 waiting to be installed for a broader monitoring scope.
National Police Chief Avelino Razon Jr. has squelched speculations that the cameras are for monitoring road traffic and criminality and not for spooking the populace.
The CCTV project was launched Oct. 10 last year at the Metro Manila police head office in Bicutan, Taguig City following the August Asean Ministerial Meeting and the January Asean Summit in Cebu last year.
