The Nueva Ecija police recorded a total of 69 index crimes in the first quarter of the year, a 40 percent drop compared to the 116 cases during the same period last year.
Senior Superintendent Napoleon Taas, Nueva Ecija police director, credited the drop to the strict implementation of the Mamang Pulis project of Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Director General Avelino Razon Jr. calling for high police visibility in the streets.
Index crimes are those committed against persons or property like murder, homicide, rape and physical injuries.
Taas, who took over the Nueva Ecija police last Jan. 11, also reported the arrest of at least 140 wanted people, including Patricio Quiambao and Catalino Garcia, listed as the second and 15th most wanted, respectively, in the province.
